Seattle International Film Festival

Mid-May thru early June
While Seattle may not be known as a major player in the film industry, the Seattle International Film Festival is a grand celebration of film that brings filmmakers from all over the globe to the Emerald City. The scope of the festival is massive, typically showing in the neighborhood of 200 films from around the world. Each year the Opening Night Gala presents a major world premiere, and combined with the following reception the night is one of the city's most lavish events. The festival's Closing Night Gala is a screening and reception that serves as the wrap party for a month's worth of film indulgence.

Aside from the myriad of films to choose from, festival-goers can also attend a number of lectures, panels and special events dedicated to the craft and business of film. These include interview sessions with filmmakers, panels that bring together diverse members of the film industry to address important topics and classes on film techniques.

Films are grouped into one or more thematic "programs", such as contemporary world cinema, women in cinema and short films. Of particular popularity are the family film and regional cinema programs.
